Valentina Matviyenko Arrives in Turkmenistan for CIS International Forums in Avaza

As part of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the coastal resort of Avaza is hosting a series of high-level international forums leading up to the summit of CIS heads of state. A delegation of Russian parliamentarians, led by Valentina Matviyenko—Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation—has arrived in Turkmenistan for a working visit to participate in these major multilateral meetings. The parliamentary group also includes Federation Council Deputy Speaker Inna Svyatenko and the heads of relevant committees, Liliya Gumerova and Vladimir Dzhabarov.
The key series of events begins on October 7 with the international forum "The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development," organized within the framework of the Dialogue of Women of the Commonwealth Countries. The Speaker of the Russian Upper House is also scheduled to address a specialized conference on universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals—a joint initiative of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, according to the Federation Council press service. The Russian delegation's itinerary also includes bilateral talks with the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
The packed schedule of inter-parliamentary and thematic sessions will lay the substantive groundwork for the chairmanship’s centerpiece event: the CIS Heads of State Summit on October 9.
Hosting a series of international meetings on the Caspian coast reaffirms Turkmenistan’s role as an effective platform for strengthening multilateral dialogue, fostering humanitarian ties, and formulating joint solutions to key issues of regional security and sustainable development.
