Commemorative Events Attended by the President of Turkmenistan Held in Ashgabat

Resilience, courage, and the unbreakable bond between generations remain the spiritual foundation of Turkmen society, shaping the values that guide the country's modern development. On October 6, Turkmenistan marked Day of Remembrance for the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake and the heroes who fell in all wars for the freedom and independence of the Motherland. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the commemorative ceremony of laying flowers at the monuments of the capital’s "Halk Hakydasy" Memorial Complex.
On the square in front of the memorial, accompanied by the sounds of the National Anthem and the mournful melody "Keçpelek," the Head of State laid wreaths at the foot of the "Ruhy Tagzym" monument, paying tribute to those who perished in the natural disaster of 1948.
A devastating earthquake razed the city to the ground, claiming the lives of thousands of compatriots—among them the head of state’s great-grandfather, the educator and soldier Berdymukhamed Annayev. The memory of those fellow citizens who demonstrated resilience during those trying times is reflected today in the constructive, modern face of Ashgabat. The transformation of the capital into a contemporary international hub of diplomacy, neutrality, and a comfortable urban environment stands as a living symbol of the fulfillment of our ancestors' dream of a peaceful and happy future.
President Serdar Berdymukhamedov also laid flowers at the foot of the "Milletiň ogullary" and "Baky şöhrat" monuments near the Eternal Flame, which honor the immortal heroism of the Motherland’s defenders. Leaders of the national parliament, members of the government, security agencies, the diplomatic corps, and international organizations, as well as respected elders and young people, joined in paying their respects.
Commemorative ceremonies, memorial prayers, and sadaka (charitable meals) were held on this day in the city of Arkadag and across all the country’s provinces, uniting the people in their commitment to cherishing their history and confidently building the future.
