Iran Is Exploring Shifting Some Trade Flows to the Caspian Sea
Amid the complex situation with the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian authorities are considering developing cargo transportation through the north of the country and the Caspian Sea, Fars news agency reports.
The initiative, dubbed the "Caspian Express" by experts, aims to minimize logistics costs and create a sustainable alternative route for shipping goods to Central Asian and Eurasian countries.
The project involves the active use of the port infrastructure of Anzali, Amirabad, and Nowshahr, from which cargo will be transported across the Caspian Sea to ports in partner countries. Expanding the "northern leg" of Iranian exports opens new opportunities for the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, a key logistics hub at the crossroads of the North-South and East-West corridors.
