The Passing of the Baton from Balkan to Dashoguz Marked the Closing of Culture Week 2026
The large-scale creative marathon of Culture Week 2026 has concluded in Turkmenistan. The final day of the forum coincided with the nationwide celebration of Culture and Art Workers' Day, as well as Magtymguly Pyragy's Poetry Day, bringing together major dialogue and concert venues in the Balkan velayat and the country's capital.
The final day in Balkanabat began with a memorial event: forum delegates laid flowers at the Magtymguly Pyragy monument, paying tribute to the great Eastern thinker. The main celebrations moved to the concert hall of the Türkmeniň ak öýi building, where the official closing ceremony and summary of the Week took place. Representatives of the creative intelligentsia noted that the multi-day marathon, which included dozens of exhibitions, film screenings, theater premieres, and methodological meetings, became an important stage in preparation for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence.
The official part culminated in the symbolic passing of the baton: representatives of the Dashoguz velayat were ceremoniously presented with the Challenge Cup as the region that will host Culture Week in June 2027. The festive program continued with a gala concert, which included folklore performances based on national destans, a classical performance of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's popular song "Kalbymda sen," a traditional dance, "Kushtdepdi," and a grand patriotic finale performed by a joint ensemble of artists.
In parallel, the festive events spread throughout the country, with the cultural and park complex in the capital serving as their main center. Here, on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as members of the Khalk Maslakhaty, deputies of the Mejlis, heads of departments, and students, bouquets were laid at the foot of the majestic Magtymguly Pyragy monument. The evening program in the square in front of the monument continued with a creative dedication featuring leading artists, vocalists, and poets, concluding the week-long cultural marathon with a unified nationwide celebration.
