On May 15, a literary and cultural evening along with a competition for experts in Persian classical literature was held at the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly. The event was dedicated to the Day of Preservation of the Persian Language and the memory of the great poet and epic writer Abulqasim Ferdowsi. The event was organized by the Cultural Center of the Embassy of Iran in Turkmenistan together with the university administration.
A large thematic exhibition was arranged in the university foyer. Guests and participants were able to explore rare books devoted to Ferdowsi’s works, historical handmade artifacts, and an exhibition reflecting the achievements of modern Turkmenistan.

During the official part of the event, the rector of TSU and diplomats from the Embassy of Iran delivered speeches. They emphasized the deep historical ties and the shared cultural and spiritual values that have united the Turkmen and Iranian peoples for centuries and are reflected in classical literature.
The central event of the day was a three-stage competition dedicated to knowledge of the famous epic Shahnameh. Students from the country’s leading universities demonstrated impressive language skills.
• In the first stage, participants recited from memory at least ten beyts (couplets) by Ferdowsi in Persian.
• In the second round, the strongest contestants explained in detail the plot and meaning embedded in the verses.
• In the final stage, participants answered difficult questions from the examination committee concerning the poet’s life and literary heritage.

According to the results of the competition, the best participants received honorary certificates, commemorative souvenirs, and cash prizes from the organizers.
The festive evening concluded with a vibrant musical and folklore program. Student groups and language course participants performed colorful songs and dances in Turkmen and Persian languages.
