The economic partnership between Ashgabat and Moscow will receive a new impetus at the upcoming International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum." One of the events on the business program will be a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation.
According to TASS, citing Taliya Minullina, head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, this year's forum organizers have focused on the "inter-country relations" format. Along with meetings of full-fledged intergovernmental commissions with a number of countries, three key meetings at the co-chair level are planned in Kazan, including a dialogue between Russia and Turkmenistan.

The parties are expected to discuss the implementation of current economic agreements and new investment projects. The Russian commission is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, while the Turkmen commission is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov.
KazanForum 2026, which will be held from May 12 to 17, promises to be a record-breaking event. The business program includes more than 140 sessions across 20 areas.

Turkmenistan will also be represented at the forum with a national pavilion, showcasing its export and investment potential.
Since Kazan is designating 2026 as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World, the forum will host the Congress of Culture Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on May 14 for the second consecutive year.

In addition to the traditional economic panels, this year's forum will also offer guests a spectacular component: for the first time, it will feature horse races and a jockey championship, which is particularly in keeping with Turkmenistan's cultural traditions. The races and championship will take place on Saturday, May 16, at the Kazan Hippodrome, where Turkmen jockeys are also expected to participate.
A modest fashion festival will be held on May 13. Designers from Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan will showcase their work.
