Microsoft and Nvidia have joined forces to invest up to $15 billion in the AI startup Anthropic, which focuses on artificial intelligence technologies.
Additionally, Anthropic plans to purchase computing resources from the Microsoft Azure cloud service for approximately $30 billion. As part of their mutual collaboration, Microsoft will use Anthropic’s AI models, while the startup will leverage Microsoft’s infrastructure, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic was valued at $183 billion in its most recent funding round. The startup is actively expanding its computing capabilities and plans to invest roughly $50 billion in building data centers across multiple U.S. states.
In October, Anthropic also signed an agreement with Google (a division of Alphabet Inc.) to supply up to 1 million specialized AI chips, with a total value in the tens of billions of dollars.
