Ashgabat, January 9 | ORIENT. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held the first government meeting of 2026. The main outcome of the videoconference meeting was the approval of work plans for all sectors for the current year. The reports presented demonstrate a clear pragmatic course: investment in infrastructure, digital transformation, and expanding the role of transport.
ORIENT highlighted the key areas of the "Roadmap 2026":
Energy and Transport
The fuel-energy sector remains the driver of the economy. The priorities for 2026 are crystal clear:
TAPI: Successful construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section ("Arkadagyň ak ýoly"). This marks the transition to the actual pipeline laying phase on Afghan territory.
Gas and Oil: Launch of a new phase of development at the Galkynysh supergiant and intensification of deep hydrocarbon processing.
Transport Hub: The Transport and Communications Complex continues its commitment to building its own merchant fleet (sea vessels) and modernizing its railway infrastructure, including repairs to its fleet of diesel locomotives and railcars.
Economy and Finance
The finance unit will focus on efficiency reviews and digitalization. A comprehensive audit of production capacity utilization across all sectors is planned, as well as the promotion of digital technologies in the operations of ministries and agencies across the sector.
The sector will focus on expanding the range of insurance services and implementing economic regulation tools in line with international standards.
Agriculture and Food Sovereignty
In agriculture, the emphasis is shifting from volume to technology. This involves a scientific approach to the introduction of new crop varieties and the development of veterinary medicine.
Resource conservation will be addressed through strict oversight of the rational use of water resources and the development of irrigation systems.
Social Vector and Culture
In the field of education, the primary focus is on "sciences of the future"—attracting young people to high technology and developing applied innovations.
Heritage: In 2026, Turkmenistan plans to submit new nominations to the UNESCO World Heritage List, strengthening its image as a global cultural center.
Diplomacy and Global Integration
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan confirmed its commitment to actively aligning with global institutions, including continuing its efforts to join the World Trade Organization and strengthening ties with the International Energy Agency.
Implementing the initiatives of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly will be a central theme of foreign policy.
Targets for 2026: the state aims not simply to maintain stability, but to actively modernize production, build bridges and ships, and integrate the national economy into global value chains through digital platforms.
