During a working visit to the city of Arkadag on November 5, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting of the Board of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care. The meeting focused on further improving the Foundation's activities, its legal framework, and expanding international cooperation.
The meeting reviewed the results of its work over the past period and made important decisions on amendments to the Foundation's Charter, including the appointment of a Founder. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed Resolutions that strengthen the Foundation's administrative framework and the procedure for delegating authority, thereby ensuring its long-term and effective operation.
In accordance with the amendments to the Foundation's Charter, a new governance system aimed at institutional sustainability is envisaged. The Founder of the Foundation has the right to delegate the duties of the President of the Foundation to one of the Executive Directors – Vice Presidents of the Foundation. The Founder may also introduce new Founders to the Foundation and decide to delegate his/her powers to one of them.
Vice President for Medical Affairs Oguljahan Atabayeva presented a report on humanitarian work. Since the beginning of the year, the Foundation has financed over 700 surgeries and provided inpatient treatment for children across the country. From January to October, 163 surgeries were performed on sick children, and approximately 900 children received rehabilitation and treatment. It was emphasized that this work is a clear result of the state's commitment to children in need of health care.
Noting the significant expansion of its international activities, the Foundation held an international conference in March, the outcome document of which was translated into the official languages of the UN and distributed as an agenda document for the 79th session of the General Assembly.
In keeping with the ancient traditions of humanism and compassion, the Foundation's Board decided to provide humanitarian aid to neighboring Afghanistan, which suffered from the recent catastrophic earthquake. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions to send medicine, food, clothing, and other essential items to the fraternal Afghan people, primarily children.
