Starry Concert in Ashgabat: Classical and Folk Melodies for International Music Day
03.10.2025 | 16:00 |On October 1, the Turkmen National Conservatory named after May Kuliyeva in Ashgabat hosted a grand concert dedicated to International Music Day (first celebrated 50 years ago on UNESCO’s initiative). The event also coincided with the International Day of Older Persons.
The concert program, prepared by teachers and students, highlighted the rich heritage of both global and national music. Traditionally, the evening began with the dutar: laureate of the “Turkmeniň Altyn asyry” prize, Lachin Hudayberdiyeva, performed the Turkmen folk melody “Balsaýat.”
🎶Performances that captivated the audience
The hall resounded with works by Rejep Rejepov, Bach, Puccini, Hydyr Allanurov, Chopin, Verdi, Sviridov and other composers. Among the standout performers were winners of the state competition “Turkmeniň Altyn asyry”: vocalists Begench Moshiyev and Bahar Durdyyeva, dutar player Lachin Hudayberdiyeva, and pianist Ashir Ashirov.
Notable performances included:
• Singer Meylis Muratgeldiyev warmly received the audience with Hydyr Allanurov’s composition “Söwer ýar.”
• Begench Moshiyev (laureate of the “Turkmeniň Altyn asyry” award) performed “Duran ýerlere” from the film “Keçpelek.”
• Classical music enthusiasts were particularly impressed by the joint performance of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by Aybolek Mukhiyeva and Seyran Atanyazov.
• Honored artist of Turkmenistan Vladimir Mkrtumov impressed classical music lovers with two pieces by Ravel: “Pavane” and “Alborada Graciosa.”
A surprise came in the form of an unplanned romance “Memories of You” by Jeren Kurbanklycheva, performed by vocalist Bahar Durdyyeva and concertmaster Stella Faramazova.
The concert concluded with a powerful finale: all vocalists joined together to perform “Toý Aýdymy” by composer Chary Nurymov. All performances were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, including labor veterans.4
