Samarkand to Host International Astronautical Congress in 2028
03.10.2025 | 15:56 |A major decision was made at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney to hold the 2028 congress in Samarkand. This event will open a new chapter in the development of the space industry for Uzbekistan and the entire Central Asian region.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies presented a program at the congress, including reports on the country's achievements in space technologies and its future plans. During the event, meetings were held with representatives of space agencies from Europe, Asia, and America to discuss projects on the application of digital technologies in space monitoring, agriculture, and ecology.
The leadership of the International Astronautical Federation highly praised Uzbekistan’s scientific potential, the interest of its youth in space sciences, and its efforts to develop infrastructure. The support for holding the IAC in Samarkand in 2028 confirmed these achievements.
The congress is expected to attract more than 10,000 foreign participants and will become an important platform for the development of science and technology in the region. The event is anticipated to have a significant economic impact, similar to the current congress in Sydney, which brought the Australian economy 42 million Australian dollars (about 27 million US dollars).
