An Architectural Gift of Friendship: Turkmenistan Begins Construction of a Mosque in Fuzuli
02.10.2025 | 01:55 |Ashgabat, October 2 | ORIENT. Turkmenistan is embarking on a humanitarian and architectural initiative aimed at strengthening ties of brotherhood with the Republic of Azerbaijan. Yesterday, at the direction of National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council), Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a contract was signed marking the beginning of construction work on a mosque in Fuzuli.
The Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care is a party to the contract. The design and construction of the mosque have been entrusted to the domestic private enterprise "Aga-gurluşyk," effectively elevating Turkmen architectural and construction solutions to an international level.
This initiative was first announced during Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's visit to Azerbaijan in July 2025, when he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev toured the cities of Fuzuli and Shusha.
During his stay in Fuzuli, which is undergoing rapid restoration, the National Leader of the Turkmen people proposed the construction of a mosque as a gift from Turkmenistan to the fraternal Azerbaijani people. This gift carries profound symbolic meaning, reflecting the centuries-old spiritual and cultural ties between the two peoples, as well as Turkmenistan's commitment to the principles of humanism and support for peace.
