NASA Plans Farthest Crewed Spaceflight in History

NASA plans to send a crew of four astronauts on the farthest crewed spaceflight in history in February 2026. The journey will last about ten days and will mark the first time in 50 years that humans will approach the Moon so closely while traveling a record distance from Earth.

The Artemis II mission crew includes Christina Cook, Victor Glover (pilot), Gregory Reid Wiseman (commander), and Jeremy Hansen.

The flight will be the second launch under the Artemis program, which aims to land astronauts on the Moon and establish a long-term human presence on its surface.

Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for NASA Lakisha Hawkins stated that the launch window could open as early as February 5, emphasizing that crew safety remains the top priority.
