OpenAI unveils plan for ChatGPT and API development
15.08.2025 | 14:55 |In a post on his X account, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman outlined how the company plans to manage the growing demand for its new language model, GPT-5. He presented a clear, phased strategy for distributing computing power.
OpenAI’s priorities for providing access to GPT-5 are as follows:
• Paid Users: The main goal is to give paid ChatGPT subscribers access to GPT-5 with limits that exceed those of previous models. The request limit for GPT-5 Thinking in the ChatGPT Plus subscription has already been increased to 3,000 queries, with plans to add access to GPT-5 Pro.
• API Clients: The next step is to meet the demand from existing clients who use the API. The company estimates it can support up to a 30% increase in their current needs.
• Free Users: After that, OpenAI will focus on improving the quality of access to the free version of ChatGPT.
• Further API Growth: Only after these steps does the company plan to increase capacity to meet new demand for the API.
According to Altman, OpenAI intends to double its computing resources in the next five months, which is expected to significantly improve the situation for all users.
