At a conference held by the U.S. Federal Reserve, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman presented data on ChatGPT's rapid growth in popularity. Journalists obtained figures illustrating the extensive global user engagement with the AI service.

ChatGPT processes approximately 2.5 billion requests daily. Of these, roughly 330 million originate from American users, making the United States the company's largest market.

The number of daily active ChatGPT users reached 500 million in 2025. Notably, this figure was 300 million in December 2024, indicating substantial growth. The vast majority of users prefer the free version of the service.

For comparison, Google processes around 13.6 billion search queries daily. Experts suggest that if OpenAI were to release its own browser, the company could significantly approach or even surpass these figures. While rumors of such a browser are circulating, there has been no official confirmation from OpenAI.
