Ashgabat, December 22 | ORIENT. The Caspian agenda always occupies a prominent place in the dialogue between Ashgabat and Tehran. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Turkmenistan's Special Representative for Caspian Affairs Murad Atajanov held talks, outlining the contours of cooperation for the coming year, IRNA reports.
Preparations for the 7th Caspian Summit, scheduled for the summer of 2026 in Tehran, were also discussed. The parties have already begun coordinating efforts to fill the presidential meeting with concrete agreements on security and transportation.
One of the most sensitive topics of the talks was the continuing decline in the water level in the Caspian Sea. The diplomats discussed the creation of a special working group to monitor the situation and develop measures to adapt port infrastructure to the new conditions.
