OpenAI expands cloud infrastructure: Google Cloud joins ChatGPT providers

OpenAI has announced a strategic expansion of its cloud infrastructure, integrating Google Cloud Platform as a compute provider for its flagship product, ChatGPT. This decision signifies a shift towards a multi-faceted resource diversification strategy, now encompassing four key providers: Microsoft, Google Cloud Platform, CoreWeave, and Oracle.

The deployment of Google Cloud to support ChatGPT and its API will span five strategic regions: the United States, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

This change also reflects a transformation in the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft. Despite significant investments, Microsoft officially recognized OpenAI as a competitor last year, leading to a more multifaceted interaction compared to their previous close collaboration.

For Google Cloud, this partnership represents a significant strategic success. Google's cloud division, which has traditionally lagged behind Amazon and Microsoft in scale, is demonstrating its capacity to attract key players in the field of advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
