Kazakhstan aims to increase freight transportation towards Turkmenistan
23.06.2025 | 14:40 |The Government of Kazakhstan has drafted a bill concerning the ratification of an agreement on strategic cooperation in transport, logistics, and transit with the Government of Turkmenistan. According to Kursiv Media, the neighboring country's government anticipates that the adoption of this document by parliament will lead to an increase in the volume of mutual freight transportation.
"The draft Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On the Ratification of the Agreement on Strategic Cooperation in Transport, Logistics, and Transit between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of Turkmenistan' has been developed with the aim of further enhancing cooperation in the transport, logistics, and transit sectors of the two countries," states the justification for the bill, signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the developing body, the adoption of this document will help attract new volumes of traffic through the territories of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. It will also facilitate joint measures to create favorable tariff conditions, coordinate infrastructure development, and implement digital solutions for the exchange of preliminary and other information.
Specifically, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan plan to establish and develop cooperation in railway, maritime, and road transport, which will ensure efficient and safe freight transportation. The governments of both countries will also continue their work within the existing working group on transport and logistics.
Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are connected by road and rail, and transportation via the Caspian Sea is also possible. The agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the Government of Turkmenistan on the development of cooperation in transport, logistics, and transit was signed on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ashgabat on October 10, 2024, by Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev.
