"Turkmengaz" explores German expertise in methane emission monitoring

Representatives from the State Concern "Turkmengaz" and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan participated in a study visit to Berlin, Germany, from May 27th to 29th, focusing on methane emission monitoring and reporting within the framework of the Global Methane Pledge. The visit was organized with the support of the OSCE.

The objective of the visit, facilitated by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in collaboration with the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), was to exchange best practices and innovative approaches in methane emission management.

In Berlin, the Turkmen delegation held meetings with representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the German Environment Agency, and other relevant institutions. During these meetings, Germany's successful strategies for reducing methane emissions were discussed.

A significant component of the program was a visit to AIRMO, a company specializing in methane emission monitoring. Turkmen specialists had the opportunity to witness a live demonstration of methane monitoring at a gas station, as well as learn about AIRMO's services in detecting and mitigating methane leaks.

The Head of the Economic and Environmental Department of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, Olivera Zurovac-Kuzman, noted that this visit is part of the Centre's ongoing support in the field of methane emission reduction and regulation. She expressed confidence that the trip would strengthen the capacity of Turkmen experts in effectively fulfilling commitments related to the Global Methane Pledge.

During the visit, the representatives of Turkmenistan also discussed with their German counterparts the EU's legislation and regulatory requirements regarding methane emissions, Germany's experience in developing and implementing relevant policies, and the role of standards and certification in this area.
