MediaTek catches up with Apple: 2nm chips are ready for production by September

At the recent Computex trade show, Taiwanese company MediaTek announced significant progress, stating its plans to finalize the development of its initial 2-nanometer chips by September. This advancement has been facilitated through close collaboration with TSMC, which is set to commence mass production of 2nm chips in the latter half of the year. Consequently, MediaTek aims to keep pace with industry giants such as Apple and Qualcomm and intends to integrate this cutting-edge technology into its mainstream products, as confirmed by Chief Executive Officer Rick Tsai.

In addition to its 2nm endeavors, MediaTek is actively diversifying its development efforts. The company intends to supply specialized 3nm processors for Google Chromebooks. In the realm of artificial intelligence, MediaTek is partnering with Nvidia on chips for server systems, including the GB10 for DGX Spark, and reportedly on the N1X processor for laptops. Furthermore, MediaTek plans to integrate its processor cores with GeForce RTX graphics into the automotive sector. Products utilizing Nvidia's NVLink Fusion interface are not anticipated to emerge before 2027.
