 The textile industry has become a driving force in Turkmenistan's trade sector

During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan chaired by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Saturday, April 5th, Vice-Premier Nokerguly Atagulyyev presented a report on the outcomes of the activities of the supervised ministries, sectoral departments, and the business sector for the first quarter of 2025.

In the sphere of trade and foreign economic relations, a 13% increase in trade turnover was recorded during the reporting period compared to the same period last year, and production output increased by 1.2%.

Enterprises of the Ministry of Textile Industry demonstrated a significant increase in production volume, amounting to 14.2% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Specifically, the production of cotton yarn increased by 42.9%, fabrics by 50.9%, garments and knitwear by 4.3%, and leather goods by 40.4%.

The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs also showed positive dynamics: the growth in the volume of agricultural and food production amounted to 7.1%, and industrial production to 4.3%.

Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of further developing the digital economy and e-commerce for the successful resolution of the tasks facing the complex. The Head of State instructed that attention be focused on ensuring the domestic market with food and in-demand goods, as well as expanding the assortment and increasing the production volumes of the textile industry. The necessity of studying international experience to improve the activities of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was noted, and in this regard, the Vice-Premier was given a number of specific instructions.
