Reception Was Held in Ashgabat to Mark the 104th Anniversary of Türkiye’s Victory Day
A solemn reception was held in Ashgabat by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Turkmenistan to mark the 104th anniversary of Victory Day, celebrated on August 30.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps as well as officials of the host country, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov.
Address by Turkish Ambassador Şener Cebeci
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Turkmenistan Şener Cebeci addressed the guests with welcoming remarks. The diplomat emphasized the significance of the occasion, noting that it was his first event in his capacity as head of the diplomatic mission:
“I welcome you to our reception held to mark the 104th anniversary of Victory Day — one of the most important chapters in the struggle of the Republic of Türkiye for independence and freedom. As the Turkish Ambassador who has recently assumed his duties in Turkmenistan — our ancestral homeland — I am honored to welcome you to this reception together with my wife. This event is also the first occasion to which I have had the honor of inviting guests in Turkmenistan.”
In his speech, the Ambassador also expressed his deep sorrow and condolences over a tragic maritime incident:
“Unfortunately, today we are saddened by the loss of many lives as a result of the sinking of a vessel that occurred yesterday off the coast of Kyrenia.”
The Ambassador also read out a congratulatory message from President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which highlighted the significance of August 30 as the day that definitively secured the Turkish people’s eternal homeland and gave impetus to the development of the modern Turkish state.
Address by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov
On behalf of the Turkmen side, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov delivered congratulatory remarks. He extended his congratulations to the Turkish people, wished them peace and prosperity, and warmly welcomed the new Turkish Ambassador on the beginning of his diplomatic mission:
“First of all, we sincerely congratulate you on the national holiday of the Republic of Türkiye — ‘August 30, Victory Day’ — and wish the entire Turkish people peace, well-being and prosperity!
Taking this opportunity, I sincerely congratulate you, Mr. Ambassador, on the beginning of your work as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Turkmenistan.”
Ahmet Gurbanov described Victory Day as a symbol of service to the homeland and the protection of national interests:
“Victory Day is a holiday that unites all people who sincerely serve their Motherland, care about protecting its national interests, ensuring the security of its citizens and promoting the prosperity of the state.”
The Deputy Foreign Minister went on to elaborate on the key aspects of the multifaceted and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Political dialogue and high-level contacts:
“Turkmenistan and the Republic of Türkiye are connected by long-standing and friendly relations based on mutual respect, trust and the close ties between our peoples. Today, these relations have a multifaceted and strategic character. Mutual visits and regular meetings between the heads of the two states provide a solid political foundation for the further development of bilateral cooperation.
In this regard, it is worth noting the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Türkiye in March 2024, as well as the visit of President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Turkmenistan in December 2025.”
Trade and economic partnership:
“Economic cooperation is one of the most important areas of Turkmen-Turkish relations. To date, a number of Turkish business entities have carried out effective activities in various sectors of Turkmenistan’s economy. Currently, the volume of trade turnover between the two countries is steadily increasing.”
Cultural and humanitarian ties:
“The Turkmen and Turkish peoples share deep historical, cultural and spiritual values. Therefore, humanitarian cooperation is one of the most important areas of bilateral relations, forming their natural and solid foundation. The organization of reciprocal Days of Culture, as well as various cultural events and exhibitions, has become an important factor contributing to the further rapprochement of our peoples.”
Concluding his remarks, Ahmet Gurbanov expressed firm confidence that, through the efforts of the leadership of both countries, the fraternal ties between Turkmenistan and Türkiye would continue to develop dynamically.
