China completes drilling of deepest vertical well in Asia

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has completed drilling the deepest vertical well in Asia, reaching a depth of 10,910 meters. This was reported by Xinhua News Agency.

The well, known as "Shenditake-1", is located in the Taklamakan Desert in the Tarim Basin of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Drilling began on May 30, 2023 and took more than 580 days, of which about 300 days were needed to pass the last 910 meters. This well is intended not only for the exploration of oil and gas resources, but also for the study of the Earth's evolution and deep geology. During the drilling process, significant engineering achievements were made, such as the deepest tail cementing and the deepest wireline logging with visualization. The well penetrated 12 geological formations, reaching rocks over 500 million years old.

To support the project, CNPC developed the world's first automated drilling equipment for superdeep wells and a set of advanced logging tools. This achievement opens up new horizons for scientific research and resource development in the region.
