Kazakhstan to build West-East fiber optic superhighway
10.02.2025 | 09:50 |Kazakhstan is planning to build a West-East fiber optic superhighway, which will be an important step towards improving the country's digital infrastructure.
An agreement on the construction was signed between the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Freedom Telecom Holding. The project includes the creation of data processing centers (DPCs) of at least Tier-III level (extremely high standard of equipment and infrastructure reliability), which will be designed for the transit and storage of international Internet traffic.
The new route will provide an alternative path for data transmission between Europe and East Asia, which will increase Kazakhstan's competitiveness in the digital services market and attract the attention of global IT companies. In addition, the project should boost financial transactions and strengthen the areas of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, which will make Kazakhstan more attractive to foreign investors.
The implementation of the superhighway is expected to significantly increase the volume of transmitted data and provide Kazakhstan with a key role in the international transit of Internet traffic. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2026, and funding will be provided by private investment.
