The Beatles' song "Now and Then" has been nominated for the BRIT Awards 2025

The nominees for the BRIT Awards 2025 by Mastercard have been announced. This annual British pop music awards ceremony is considered the British equivalent of the American Grammy Awards. A major event in the British music industry calendar, along with its sister events, the Classic BRITs and BRITs Icon, it celebrates not only the greatest achievements in music but also serves as an important platform for demonstrating and promoting new talent.

The winners of the five genre awards will be determined by public voting via WhatsApp, which opens on Friday, January 31st at 12:00 PM and closes on February 14th at 6:00 PM. To vote, fans can visit the BRITs WhatsApp channel or the BRITs social media pages. The winners will be announced during a live show on Saturday, March 1st at the O2 Arena, which will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX, hosted by Jack Whitehall.

A landmark nomination is that of The Beatles, who have been shortlisted for the "Song of the Year" award for their historic single "Now and Then", almost 50 years since their last BRIT nomination at the inaugural ceremony in 1977.

"Now and Then" was originally a demo recorded by John Lennon in 1977 with the inscription "For Paul". It was considered for inclusion in The Beatles' "Anthology" compilation released in 1995 but was ultimately omitted due to the poor audibility of Lennon's vocals on the original recording. Paul McCartney had long dreamed of completing it, and with the advent of artificial intelligence technology capable of separating recordings into instruments and vocals with minimal distortion, this was finally made possible.

Only Lennon's voice was taken from the demo, without the piano or noise. Paul created the bass part, Ringo re-recorded the drums, and a string section was added to the song. They also used George Harrison's guitar solo and backing vocals, which remained in the archives of the 1995 studio sessions. Thus, "Now and Then", which sings of longing for a loved one and reunion, brought The Beatles together and became the last song featuring all four members of the legendary group.

The updated song "Now and Then", released in November 2023, became a subject of much discussion in the music community after being nominated for two Grammy Awards – a music award presented annually by the American National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

As experts have written, "Now and Then" is not just a song but a symbol of a new era in music. It is a reminder that even decades after the band's breakup, its legacy continues to live on and adapt to new conditions. It also demonstrates how technology can revive old works, bringing them into the context of modernity and potentially opening new paths for the future of musical art.
