Early voting for the Belarusian presidential election begins today

Today, January 21, 2025, early voting begins in Belarus for the Presidential election, as reported by BELTA.

This stage of the election will last until January 25, and voters will be able to cast their ballots over these five days. Precinct election commissions will be open from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM without interruption. The main voting day is scheduled for January 26, when polling stations will open at 8:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM.

In Belarus, more than 5,320 polling stations have been established for the presidential election.

Early voting is an important part of the electoral process in Belarus, allowing citizens who are unable to come to the polling station on the main election day to exercise their right to vote.

On election day, it is possible to vote at home based on applications from voters. If a voter is unable to come to the polling station due to health reasons or other valid reasons, they have the right to apply in writing or orally to the relevant precinct election commission with a request to organize voting at their location. The voter may submit such a request to the precinct election commission with the assistance of other persons, such as relatives or neighbors.

This year, five candidates are running for the highest state post, including the current president Alexander Lukashenko and other well-known politicians.

It is also worth noting that there is no so-called “day of silence” in Belarus, which allows campaigning for candidates right up until the main voting day.
