The inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States took place in the Rotunda, the central hall of Congress. The Republican took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution and the country, Euronews reports.

"I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and support the Constitution of the United States. So, help me God," he said the traditional oath, placing his left hand on the Bible, which his wife Melania held in front of him.

Trump became the second president in US history to hold the highest state office with a break. Previously, only Grover Cleveland (the 22nd and 24th president in 1885-1889 and in 1893-1897) was able to achieve this. Now Trump is the 45th and 47th president of the United States.

Immediately after the Republican was sworn in, 21 cannon shots rang out over Capitol Hill. Minutes earlier, in strict accordance with tradition, 40-year-old Vice President James David Vance had taken the oath of office. Thus, the countdown of the Trump administration's four-year term began.
