Turkmenistan and UN discuss climate initiatives and plans for joint work
11.11.2024 | 20:25 |On 11 November, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko at the MFA.
The discussion focused on current issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN and its specialized agencies. Special attention was given to climate initiatives. The parties discussed specific steps for implementing the 2025–2026 Roadmap aimed at strengthening Turkmenistan's international cooperation within the framework of the Global Methane Pledge, the press service of the diplomatic department reported.
Also discussed was the issue of establishing a Regional Center for Climate Change-related Technologies, which is intended to become an important platform for sharing experience and coordinating efforts among the countries of Central Asia.
Diplomats emphasized the importance of systematic knowledge exchange and strengthening partnerships between the coordination centers of the region's countries to address climate change issues.
Additionally, the meeting covered the preparation of joint events planned for the end of the year, as well as identifying key areas of cooperation within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
