Turkmenistan to co-chair the CIS in 2025
08.10.2024 | 23:30 |From 1 January, Tajikistan will chair all the highest bodies of the Commonwealth. The co-chairs of the CIS in 2025 will be the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan, as the future chair, for which consent has already been received from Ashgabat. This was announced by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth, as reported by TASS.
"In a narrow format, a decision was made regarding the chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States for the coming year. Russia is transferring the chairmanship to the Republic of Tajikistan, and from 1 January, Tajikistan will chair all the highest bodies of the Commonwealth. This includes the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Heads of Government, the Council of Foreign Ministers, and the Economic Council of the CIS”, said Lebedev.
"Notably, the co-chairs will be the Russian Federation, as the former chair, and Turkmenistan, as the future chair of the CIS—we have already received confirmation from the leadership of Turkmenistan that they are ready to assume the chairmanship in 2026," added the CIS Secretary General.
