Gazprom and CNPC agreed to increase gas supplies to China via Power of Siberia ahead of schedule

A working meeting between Gazprom Management Committee Chairman Alexey Miller and CNPC Board of Directors Chairman Dai Houliang took place in Beijing on September 20.

The meeting participants paid special attention to the export of Russian gas to China. Gazprom guarantees reliable supplies via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline, exceeding daily contractual obligations. During the meeting, an Additional Agreement to the Agreement on the Sale and Purchase of Gas via the "Eastern" Route was signed, according to which additional deliveries for December 2024 were agreed upon. This will allow an early increase in daily gas deliveries to China to the maximum contract level, which was planned to be done only at the beginning of 2025, according to the website of the Russian energy company.

Construction work on the second - "Far Eastern" route continues according to schedule.

The parties noted successful cooperation in personnel development, as well as in the scientific, technical and cultural spheres. This year, China hosted the 14th Gazprom and CNPC Arts Festival, which helps strengthen intercultural dialogue and friendship between peoples.

Background: CNPC is Gazprom's main partner in China. The companies have a 30-year agreement on the "eastern" route, with a volume of 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with deliveries starting on December 2, 2019. In February 2022, a long-term agreement was signed on the "Far Eastern" route, which will increase the total volume of deliveries to 48 billion cubic meters per year after the project reaches full capacity.
