 Turkmen chess players improve their positions at the World Olympiad in Hungary

On the seventh day of the 45th World Chess Olympiad, both the men's and women's national teams of Turkmenistan won important victories.

With an average rating of 1956 points, the women's team defeated the experienced Cubans (average rating - 2215), seeded 29th, with a score of 2.5 to 1.5. On board 3, 17-year-old Leila Shohradova won a decisive victory over women's grandmaster Forgas Moreno (rating - 2203), while the games on the other three boards ended in draws, despite the strong level of the opponents (two grandmasters and one international master) and the uncompromising nature of the fight in each of them.

Now our girls occupy the 25th line in the tournament table with 10 points out of a possible 14, thus maintaining their lead in Group “C”. In the next, 8th round our team will play with the 16th seeded Swiss national team (average rating - 2282), led by former world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk, who emigrated from Russia and is still in 2nd place in the individual standings on board one, with 5.5 points out of 6, demonstrating an actual rating level (rating-performance) of 2643.

And our Enesh Arazmedova is in the list of leaders in the individual standings on the 5th reserve board, occupying after 7 rounds the 5th place among 169 participants with rating-performance 2418. Leading the overall points contributed to the Turkmen national team is Leila Shohradova (5 points in 6 games). At this moment, Leila's rating has risen by 103 points, reaching 1976 (“live rating”).

The men's national team (seeded 73rd; average rating – 2332) defeated the Jamaican team (seeded 116th; average rating – 2161) with a score of 3:1 in the 7th round on Wednesday, currently ranking 75th among 189 teams. In the 8th round, the boys will face the team of Iceland (seed number - 59; average rating – 2483), as reported by the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.

In the overall standings, both the men's and women's categories are led by the Indian team, which has not lost any points so far. The Chess Olympiad will last until 22 September.
