Oriented on making people closer

On the eve of the Turkmen carpet holiday, which is widely celebrated in Turkmenistan every last Sunday of May, on May 16, 2024, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine organized a event with the participation of members of the Club of spouses of heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine, representatives of the Club of family members of Ukrainian diplomats, representatives of the Ukraine State Enterprise – Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions.

The main theme of the event is Turkmen carpets. This holiday personifies loyalty to the values ​​of our ancestors, the continuity of original national traditions, the vivid embodiment of which is the world-famous Turkmen carpet.

Participants of the event were given a tour of the history of Turkmen carpet weaving, and were told about the unique techniques of this ancient art, carefully preserved and passed on from generation to generation. Hand-made carpet weaving in our country has a centuries-old history. Ancient samples of Turkmen carpets are kept in museums, exhibition halls and art galleries around the world.

Particular attention is drawn to the Turkmen national patterns - gols, inherited from our ancestors. They are not only decoration, but also part of the history of the Turkmen people, representing various regions of Turkmenistan. Gols are placed on the State Flag and the Emblem of the country and represent the nationality and identity of the Turkmen people.

Guests of the holiday were told about the National Museum of Turkmen Carpet in Ashgabat, about the history of the “Altyn Asyr” carpet, included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest man-made carpet creation of Turkmen craftswomen, about the inclusion of national carpet art in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity as evidence that our national values ​​are widely known abroad.

Participants of the event were impressed by the beauty and uniqueness of Turkmen carpets and handmade carpet products presented as part of the exhibition of folk art and decorative arts of Turkmenistan, including national handmade jewelry, traditional Turkmen women's and men's clothing, decorative painting, national carpets, embroidery, handicrafts created taking into account folk traditions and fashion of today.

Nearby is an exhibition of book products, including a new book by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov “Youth is the support of the Motherland” and numerous works by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, translated into Ukrainian.

Also presented are numerous publications about the outstanding Turkmen poet-thinker Magtymguly Fragi and collections of his poetry translated into Ukrainian. Guests were interested to learn more about the events celebrated in 2024 are taking place within the framework of the year called “The Fount of Wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi” and the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the outstanding Turkmen poet-thinker Magtymguly Fragi.
