Turkmenistan is represented at the 10th meeting of the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific
09.05.2024 | 09:37 |Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chynar Rustamova participates in the 10th meeting of the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP), which is taking place in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar.
The event was organized jointly with the Ministry of Culture of Mongolia and the National Commission of Mongolia for UNESCO.
Delegates from 23 UNESCO member countries are taking part in the meeting.
At the opening ceremony of the regular meeting, Chairman of the Committee for the Asia and Pacific Region Kwibae Kim and Minister of Culture of Mongolia Chinbatyn Nomin spoke.
The participants got acquainted with the work carried out by the National Commissions of the UNESCO member countries within the framework of the MOWCAP program. The Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan shared an overview of the efforts made by the country over the past three years to implement the UNESCO Memory of the World program.
UNESCO's Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific, founded in 1998, is part of UNESCO's global Memory of the World initiative. Its purpose is to contribute to the preservation and access to the documentary heritage of the Asia and Pacific region, as well as to raise awareness of its importance.
Today, there are numerous libraries, archives and other institutions in the region that deal with issues of preserving the national memory of the documentary legacies of the peoples of the region.
