 The poetry marathon took place in the Kyiv Library named after Magtymguly for World Poetry Day

On the occasion of World Poetry Day, which is celebrated annually on March 21, and on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, a poetry reading was organized at the Magtymguly Library in Kyiv together with the Embassy of Turkmenistan.

“The poetic word flows” is the name of the creative event, which took place over two days - March 20 and 21. It was attended by Turkmen students and representatives of the Turkmen diaspora, management and staff of the Magtymguly Library and the Svichado library system, heads and students of secondary schools in the Svyatoshinsky district of Kyiv, according to the embassy’s website.

Participants in the poetry marathon recited poems by the great poets Magtymguly Fragi and Taras Shevchenko in Turkmen and Ukrainian. Two outstanding poets became the voices of their peoples and reflected their spiritual life in their work.

The connection between poets, the spiritual closeness of peoples was palpable in the reading of poems by the mouths of Turkmen youth. Magtymguly’s poems “Habar ber – şeýledir”, “Durasyň geler”, “Ili gözlär”, “Sadness has disappeared” were read under the single title “The Wise and Eternal Word of Fragi”. The words of the great Kobzar of the Ukrainian people from the read poems “Derek” and “My Thoughts, My Thoughts” were close in spirit to the youth.

Fragi’s poems “Share of Turkmenia”, “Fresh wind from Gürgen”, “Don’t give in to your share”, “Your state of grace”, “Don’t know”, “Good and evil”, “The hour has come”, “Oh, all-merciful God!", “Your eyes are a guest”, “Not immediately recognizable” and, of course, the eternal works of the national Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko: an excerpt from the poem “Haydamaky”, “The Commandment”, “The thirteenth day has passed...”. were read in Ukrainian
