Kyrgyzstan will develop its own open source operating system
06.03.2024 | 12:30 |Kyrgyzstan will develop its own open source operating system. This will become one of the most important areas of collaboration between the Kyrgyz company Tonk Asia and the Russian company Basalt SPO.
An agreement on a strategic partnership with a Russian company was reached.
One of them will be the development of an open source operating system for Kyrgyzstan.
The concluded memorandum also provides for joint promotion of existing software products and solutions, partnership under the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) model. Cooperation under the OEM model implies that one company produces parts and equipment that can be sold by another company under its own brand.
Director General of Tonk Asia Kuban Ibraev expressed confidence that joint efforts to develop and promote free software will significantly change the information security landscape of Kyrgyzstan.
As part of the OEM partnership, Tonk Asia will supply computers with pre-installed Viola operating systems, developed by the Russian Basalt SPO, to customers in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian countries. The Russian OS will also be installed on workstations, laptops, monoblocks, servers and interactive whiteboards produced by the Bishkek Computer Plant.
“We are ready to transfer our knowledge and experience in creating high-quality, modern, safe software products to our Kyrgyz colleagues. For more than 20 years, we have been developing our own Viola OS, the core of which is an independent free software repository, one of the largest in the world,” Sergei Trandin, CEO of Basalt SPO said.
