The new Institute of the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan will deal with the problem of lowering the water level
28.01.2024 | 21:25 |The Government of Kazakhstan has approved a resolution on the establishment of a Scientific Research Institute of the Caspian Sea, developed by the Ministry of Water Management and Irrigation, the press service of the ministry reported.
The Institute will study the environmental problems of the Caspian Sea, the problem of lowering water levels, the causes of mass mortality of seals and fish, and work to preserve the population of Caspian seals and other marine life, coastal territories. He will also participate in the development of close cooperation with other Caspian littoral States.
The Institute will provide objective and independent information about the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea. The data obtained will serve as a guideline for the adoption of comprehensive measures by state and local executive bodies. The creation of a scientific organization will make it possible to fulfill international and national obligations to preserve the Caspian Sea.
Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov expressed the opinion that the establishment of the institute, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will contribute to an integrated approach to solving water problems and strengthening international cooperation.
Turkmenistan also has the Caspian Sea Institute, established by presidential decree dated August 9, 2019, in order to develop cooperation in the Caspian Sea region, analyze the work carried out in various areas, conduct marine scientific research, prepare international legal and national documents related to the Caspian Sea, as well as review the implementation of international treaties in Turkmenistan on the issues of The Caspian Sea and the preparation of specialized methodological information.
