A young chess player from Turkmenabat takes silver at the tournament of the CIS countries
29.08.2023 | 01:14 |13-year-old Myahri Agamuradova, having lost the race for leadership to a Russian chess player, took second place in a very prestigious and strong tournament in Moscow, which is comparable in status to the unofficial CIS championship.
The Open International Chess Tournament “ACF Botvinnik Memorial Cup” was held among boys and girls under 14 (born in 2009 and younger) from 23 to 28 August. Nine CIS countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, were represented by one participant in each of the tournaments.
The fate of the gold medal in the category among girls was determined in the penultimate 8th round in a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders - Myakhri Agamuradova (FIDE rating - 1583) and Russian Anna Shukhman, who is a multiple winner of the World and European Championships, a FIDE master among women with a rating of 2238.
Before this game, Anna Shukhman had 5.5 points out of 6 possible, and Myahri - 5.5 points out of 7 possible and was in second place after Anna. But winning this game secured the gold medal for Myahri. Despite the fact that two months ago at the World Championships in Batumi, Georgia, Myahri had already beaten Anna in a blitz format, this time a more experienced 14-year-old Russian chess player won in the "classics" in a bitter struggle.
But the second place with 5.5 points out of 8 possible at such a strong tournament in terms of the level of players is a great success for the pupil of the sports school No. 13 in Turkmenabat. Then Malika Zhapparbekova from Kazakhstan, Nilufarhon Imamkuziyeva from Uzbekistan and Khanim Ismailova from Azerbaijan are on the third, fourth and fifth lines with 5 points respectively.
2 / 2 2023 opened a talented chess player Myahri Agamuradova for our country. Having made it to the women's top league at such a young age, Myahri went on to win the title of champion of Turkmenistan in the under-14 and under-13 age categories in February. And in July, at the Asian Championship among schoolchildren in Tashkent, Myakhri became a two-time silver medalist in the category under 13 in classical chess and blitz.
Myahri's coach is Reimova Oguljan, who, by the way, accompanied the young chess player in Moscow, which may also have been another important success factor. The Chess Federation believes that with such zeal as Myahri has, with methodically correct further training work and regular international tournament practice, Myahri has a great chess future.
