Today people have exhausted the annual resources of the Earth
02.08.2023 | 20:33 |In 2023, people have exhausted the conditional supply of renewable natural resources by Wednesday, August 2, the American environmental organization Global Ecological Footprint Network, GFN, reported. DW writes about this.
The day of August 2 has been declared by American environmentalists as the World Environmental Debt Day of 2023.
In its calculations, GFN compares the human ecological footprint (human consumption of renewable resources) with bio-capacity (the ability of the planet to recover and absorb waste, including CO2).
Last year, people started living in the "ecological credit" 5 days earlier - on July 28. At first glance, it seems that people spent less resources in 2023 than in 2022, but environmentalists from GFN emphasize that this is only apparent progress.
