This decision was made at the XI session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baku on Thursday. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan.
During the year, the Uzbek city will host a meeting of tourism ministers and heads of tourism administrations of 57 OIC member countries, conferences, seminars, photo exhibitions and other cultural events.
Four other cities besides Khiva contested the title of the tourist capital of the Islamic world: Abu Dhabi (UAE), Sanliurfa (Turkey), Lagos (Nigeria) and Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
