To this end, the country will prepare a roadmap for international cooperation, the development of which was reported by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a meeting of the Turkmen government on Saturday.
Turkmenistan, being a responsible participant in the world processes to combat climate change, the Paris Agreement, supported the initiatives and concepts presented at the UN Climate Conference in Glasgow (COP-26) in November 2021, and also welcomed the Global Methane Commitment.
The goal of the agreement is to limit methane emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Successful implementation of this Commitment will result in a reduction in warming of at least 0.2 degrees Celsius by 2050. The country, heading towards the transition to a "green" economy, is also striving to establish international cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy, in this area the Roadmap for Cooperation for 2022-2023 was also adopted at the government level, and the Roadmap for 2023-2024 has already been prepared.
With regard to international cooperation on methane, Rashid Meredov suggested organizing a series of training workshops, scientific forums and expert symposia to jointly develop actions and measures to prevent methane emissions.
It is also proposed, with the assistance of the International Observatory on Methane Emissions, the UN Environment Program to conduct trainings and courses to improve the competence of relevant specialists in the legal and research aspects.
