Serdar Berdimuhamedov and John Kerry had a telephone conversation
29.05.2023 | 22:54 |Pressing issues on the international environmental agenda were the subject of a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Special Representative of the US President for Climate Issues John Kerry.
The conversation took place on Monday, May 29. The parties exchanged views on actions in the field of climate change, compared the positions of the two countries in this context. Turkmenistan's vision of solving global environmental problems and protecting the environment from the negative impact of anthropogenic factors associated with intensive industrial development was voiced. This was reported in the evening newscast of the “Altyn Asyr” TV channel.
Turkmenistan, having acceded to the basic international documents in this area, stands for active cooperation with foreign partners on the environmental track. At COP 26, Turkmenistan welcomed the new Global Methane Pledge initiative and was in favor of considering joining it.
It was also noted that Turkmenistan, implementing the concept of transition to a "green" economy, is aimed at greening the oil and gas, energy industry, transport sector and other manufacturing industries.
Turkmenistan proposed to open in Ashgabat under the auspices of the UN Regional Climate Technology Center for Central Asia. Such a structure should become an effective partnership platform for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of the American side, according to the news report.
