Tajikistan after earthquakes in Turkey to pay special attention to the design of buildings
08.02.2023 | 21:14 |After the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Tajikistan will pay special attention to the issue of the strength of buildings, including residential buildings, Nizom Mirzozoda, head of the committee for architecture and construction, told reporters.
“In Tajikistan, after a series of devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, special attention will be paid to the issue of the strength of buildings, including residential buildings, although high-rise buildings built and being built now in the city of Dushanbe are designed to withstand an 8.5-9 magnitude earthquake”, - he said.
As an example of the seismic resistance of buildings, he cited an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5-6 that occurred in Dushanbe in August 2015. “Cracks appeared in the buildings, but none of them collapsed,” the head of the committee said.
“In our committee, we plan to create a separate laboratory to test the foundation and piles for strength in facilities under construction,” Mirzozoda said.
He said that most of the buildings that are being built in Dushanbe are monolithic, the frame of the building is made of reinforced concrete, and the lower part is made of piles.
According to Farhod Rakhimi, President of the Tajik Academy of Sciences, 20,000 earthquakes occur in the country every year, but no more than 40 are felt.
