This conclusion was reached by experts of the World Meteorological Organization in their preliminary report on the state of the global climate in 2022, timed to coincide with the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Egypt.
Global warming is leading to extreme heat, droughts and devastating floods that affect millions of people and lead to billions in losses, the WMO report says.
Since 1993, the rate of sea level rise has doubled — since January 2020, it has increased by almost 10 mm and reached a new record high in 2021. In the last two and a half years alone, sea level rise has accounted for 10% of the total since satellite measurements began in almost 30 years.
