The capital of Uzbekistan has become the venue for the third meeting of the working group to discuss the Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia.

The strategy is being developed within the framework of the Green Central Asia initiative of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the GIZ Regional Program "Integrated Land Use taking into account Climate Change in Central Asia".

The meeting was held with the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, relevant ministries and committees of all Central Asian countries, as well as the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD) and the International Fund for the Aral Sea Saving (IFAS). The Turkmen side took part in the event online.

The main goals and objectives of the 3rd meeting of the Regional Working Group were a joint discussion of the first version of the draft document – the Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia, coordination of its goals, objectives, strategic priorities and areas for which adaptation measures should be taken.

Based on the recommendations and suggestions received during the meeting from representatives of the Central Asian countries, this document will be finalized by regional experts of GIZ "Green Central Asia" and sent to the countries for further consideration and approval in December this year.

Earlier, at the second meeting of the working group in Tashkent on July 7, the parties agreed on the name, structure and format of the future regional document. The preliminary draft of the document, developed by international experts, was sent to the state authorized bodies for consideration and provision of comments, suggestions and comments.
