From House to Courtyard in 40 Seconds: Chinese Prefabricated Homes Attract Global Buyers
Overseas buyers have praised the quality of prefabricated houses on display at the ongoing Canton Fair in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province. Integrated solutions combining ready-made structures with comprehensive service packages have attracted particular attention.
The autumn session of the 140th China Import and Export Fair runs from October 15 to November 4. The five-day second phase, which began on Friday, focuses on products for quality home life. The exhibition covers more than 515,000 square meters, with over 25,000 booths and more than 10,000 participating enterprises.
To meet growing overseas demand for modern housing solutions, Chinese exhibitors are presenting integrated products and service packages.
One of the standout exhibits is a transformable prefabricated house that uses an electric telescopic mechanism to switch between an enclosed building and a courtyard-style home in just 40 seconds.
Exhibitor Zhang Yong said the company had received around 600 to 800 potential customer leads, with some buyers placing orders as soon as they saw the product.
Christopher, a buyer from Canada, said the integrated prefabricated house suited the Canadian market, where housing shortages are compounded by lengthy construction periods and high costs. He praised the quality of Chinese manufacturing and the comprehensive services offered with the product.
The "product plus service" model is also expanding into other home-related categories. According to data presented at the fair, around 36.5 percent of exhibitors have adopted this approach.
Brazilian buyer Cesar Savino said the event allowed him to communicate directly with construction equipment manufacturers, examine their products and compare options without travelling between multiple locations. This saves considerable time, particularly given Brazil's extensive infrastructure projects.
According to CCTV+, the Canton Fair is helping Chinese manufacturers connect with overseas partners by showcasing modern prefabricated housing and integrated solutions for the home.
