China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, on Thursday called on the international community to help de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and address the root causes of regional conflicts.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East and Palestine, Fu said the regional landscape is changing rapidly, while the spillover effects of ongoing conflicts continue to undermine security and development.

He said people across the region increasingly seek peace instead of war, dialogue instead of confrontation and fairness instead of power politics.

Fu said the United States and Iran should resume negotiations as soon as possible and work toward a comprehensive agreement acceptable to both sides. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of international shipping routes and maintaining the stability of global production and supply chains.

The Chinese envoy also expressed concern over the sharp escalation in Yemen and attacks on facilities in Saudi Arabia, including airports. He said China condemns attacks that have caused significant casualties and opposes strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Fu said the use of force cannot provide a lasting solution and urged all sides to resolve differences through dialogue and negotiations.

He also stressed that the Palestinian question remains at the core of the Middle East issue. A year after a ceasefire agreement for Gaza was reached, he said, a lasting ceasefire, large-scale humanitarian assistance and full post-war reconstruction have yet to be achieved.

According to CCTV+, China called on all parties, particularly Israel, to fully implement the ceasefire agreement, halt military operations in Gaza and contribute to building a more sustainable regional security framework.
