Strengthening of partnership in the Caspian Sea discussed in Washington

The Third Trans-Caspian Forum was held in the US capital, where delegates from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Turkey, Afghanistan and other countries discussed strengthening cooperation in the Caspian region.
The event is co-organized by the Caspian Policy Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
A separate discussion at the forum was devoted to the development of infrastructure in the Caspian, where the recently opened International Seaport of Turkmenbashi is of great importance.
This harbor has opened up opportunities for intercontinental shipping to the Black Sea region, Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific and South Asia, minimizing distance and time of delivery.
Its total annual capacity, excluding petroleum products, is more than 17 million tons of cargo, which makes the port of Turkmenbashi one of the largest in the Caspian region.
Much attention was paid to the role of the region in ensuring global energy security, as well as to the potential for expanding the network of pipelines that pass through Caspian Sea.
Such issues as investment in infrastructure of the Caspian region, strengthening of the partnership between US and Caspian countries were touched upon at the forum. The possibility of transforming the Trans-Caspian corridor into an innovative and technological center was discussed.
