New China-DPRK bridge opens to cargo traffic

The New China-DPRK Yalu River Bridge opened to cargo traffic on Thursday, adding a four-lane crossing designed to increase freight capacity and support trade between the two countries.
China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea held a joint opening ceremony, with flower-decorated trucks among the first vehicles to cross the bridge.
The crossing links Dandong in northeast China's Liaoning Province with Sinuiju in the DPRK. The road bridge is 28.5 meters wide and has four lanes for two-way traffic.
Construction began in December 2010 and was completed in October 2014. The new bridge will operate alongside the China-DPRK Friendship Bridge, which carries both road and rail traffic.
The older bridge only allows road vehicles to move in one direction at a time and can accommodate trucks weighing less than 20 metric tons. The new crossing is expected to significantly expand freight capacity.
Dandong is home to China's largest border trade port with the DPRK. According to Chinese official data, bilateral trade reached 2.735 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.
According to CCTV+, the new bridge is expected to improve connectivity between China and the DPRK and facilitate trade and people-to-people exchanges.
