Beijing plans to add 30,000 new home-based elderly care beds over the next three years as part of efforts to improve services for its aging population, the municipal civil affairs bureau said.

By the end of 2025, the Chinese capital had 5.288 million permanent residents aged 60 and above, accounting for 24.3 percent of the city's permanent population.

The number is expected to exceed 6 million by 2030, creating significantly greater demand for elderly care services.

In addition to expanding home-based care, Beijing plans to develop and certify 60,000 affordable care beds in elderly care institutions. The share of nursing beds in such facilities is expected to rise to 73 percent.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period from 2026 to 2030, the city also plans to expand specialized care units for people with dementia.

According to CCTV+, Beijing will continue developing community-based elderly care facilities and improving its overall support system for older residents.
