Chinese authorities strengthened digital services, fire monitoring and crowd management at major tourist attractions during the week-long National Day holiday.

At the Xiaoqikong Scenic Area in Guizhou Province, 204,800 visits were recorded during the first five days of the holiday. An online ticketing platform and 82 upgraded automated scanners helped speed up entry, while staff also provided raincoats and hot ginger tea to visitors.

Fire safety was a major priority at historic sites. In UNESCO-listed Hongcun village, a smart monitoring system detected abnormal heat in a kitchen, allowing firefighters to remove the hazard before an open fire developed.

At the Maijishan Scenic Area in Gansu Province, thermal-imaging drones were used to inspect steep slopes and ravines. In Shanxi Province, AI-enabled video systems monitored historic sites for smoke, flames and unauthorized use of fire.

Crowd management was also reinforced. At the Badaling section of the Great Wall, which received nearly 100,000 visitors a day, police introduced one-way routes and redirected visitors before congestion formed.

In Shanghai, police coordinated with organizers of more than 2,800 cultural and tourism activities, adjusting crowd-control measures in real time.

According to CCTV+, digital tools, smart monitoring and proactive crowd management helped tourist sites maintain safe and smooth operations during the peak holiday period.
